My primary goal as a growing practitioner is to create a safe, non-judgmental, intentional, and liberating therapeutic space. I prioritize clients’ self-determination in using their time in therapy to focus on what really matters to them. Whether it be matters of the mind, body, or spirit, I aim to collaborate with clients in helping them achieve a “life worth living.” At the core of this idea is establishing sustainable living patterns, developing a community of care, and building resilience and cognitive flexibility. Theoretically, my practice follows the principles of Carl Rogers’ Person-centered therapy. Radical empathy, healthy therapeutic relationships, and authenticity are the backbone of these ideas. My practice is also informed by concepts from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and harm reduction. I believe that DBT skills can be effective additions to one’s therapeutic toolbox when dealing with distress or emotional regulation. I also like that MI prioritizes client-centered change and allows for genuine, vulnerable exploration of ambivalence. In my practice, I have found that the principles of harm reduction can be helpful for a wide degree of presenting concerns, not just individuals in recovery. I strive to make my practice inclusive to people of all identities. I am particularly passionate about working with LGBTQIA+/questioning people, disabled people, immigrants, and cultural/religious minorities. However, it is very important to me to provide an accessible therapeutic space that operates on principles of cultural humility and celebrating diversity.
