Theoretical Orientation

My approach to therapy is primarily informed by Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT grew out of several schools of thought, including the Humanistic Perspective, Systems Theory, John Gottman’s work on relationships, and Attachment Theory. One of the main goals of EFT is to change and heal through new and authentic emotional experiences—with yourself, your partner(s), or your family.

EFT operates off the “Four Ps:” Present, Primary Affect, Process, and Positions/Patterns. These create an environment where you can feel fully present and focused on your most important emotions, and then go even deeper to see how they impact your relationship with yourself and others. Much of what we will do in therapy will help create a compassionate and judgement-free space for your emotions and use them to heal from the inside out.
