Our Values

Why getting real about mental health is so important to us.

Getting Real Counseling Center provides individual and relational counseling services to those who need it most. Our practice is a safe space to talk through your daily struggles and unlock your true potential. We pride ourselves in offering a place to talk without interruption, judgment, and perception of others getting in your way. Talk therapy can help you identify what you really want and need, and help uncover the values and beliefs that drive you, your relationships, and your worldview.

Values: We have several values in our practice that act as a foundation for each of our clinicians.

Authenticity/ Genuineness: We believe in being authentic and genuine in our interactions as a team and with our clients while maintaining professional standards. We value vulnerability in creating deeper connections and allowing for joy, creativity, and connection in meaningful ways and understand the role that authenticity plays in contributing to healthy vulnerability.

Growth/Learning focus: We believe that we are life-long learners who are constantly growing and learning as humans and as professionals. We value continuing education in the form of professional training as well as supervision, lived experience, and informal education (e.g., books, movies, podcasts). We share what we learn with our clients and our community and promote an attitude of growing and learning for life. We love students and want them to grow and learn as much as they can personally and professionally during this time in their lives.

Professional/Personal Integration: We believe that personal and professional growth are fully intertwined and cannot be separated. This sometimes means that feedback will be shared on how we come across in our personal or professional roles. The focus of the feedback will always be growing and learning as a person and as a professional. It also means that we recognize that we as humans are the tool to be used in therapy. Sometimes we’ll use our personal reactions to a person or a situation to guide the feedback given at the moment.

Promotion of inclusion: We promote a foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our office culture and practices. While we recognize our need always to be growing and learning, we do our best to practice from an anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, body positive/ body acceptance, and sex-positive stance and engage in continuing education efforts to further these values. We promote hiring clinicians of varying backgrounds, beliefs, and specialties better to serve the diverse and unique experiences of our clients.

Creating strong relationships: Building strong, meaningful relationships is a basic need for all of us. We value building relationships within our community and helping our clients do the same. It’s also a hallmark of our business to promote strong, lasting bonds within our team and work collaboratively in the office and out in the community.

Self-care:  We value self-care as clinicians and leaders and work to find a healthy work/ life balance. We actively create a positive work environment that people want to come to work in and where we support each other in creating a collaborative team.

Mission: To provide a safe space for people to grow and change.
